I am a cultural/medical anthropologist with extensive experience in education, research and international travel and international humanitarian aid. I am an experienced lecturer in the field of cultural/medical anthropology. This includes, lecturing, literature reviews, writing, qualitative data collection (for both the academic and business communities), data analysis and student advisement. In teaching, my goal is to take students beyond the text, closing the social distance between theory and practice, through hands-on activities both locally and abroad.
I have traveled to more than 65 countries as an international humanitarian volunteer. I've been a foster parent, helped with fund raising and managed dozens of surgical missions in multiple specialties to countries in Asia, Africa and South America. I support culturally appropriate aid and change with ideas that originate or are coordinated within the communities served.
In 2008, I started Humanitarian Travel Abroad, LLC, to offer hands-on international opportunities to students and other non-medical volunteers. We conduct art, photography and educational programs with a variety of schools as well as assist with facility improvements such as painting and cleaning. Find Humanitarian Travel Abroad on Facebook. For cultural insights, news and stories of human rights and humanitarian activities, follow my blog, Humanitarian News and Travel Stories at hatcherscene.com and follow me on Twitter: @hatcherscene.
